John Jasperse Choreography Workshop at the Live Arts Brewery (LAB)

Friday – Sunday, December 2 – 4, 2011

Guidelines

The Live Arts Brewery and Bryn Mawr College are pleased to offer a three day choreographic intensive with world renowned creator and teacher John Jasperse. For nearly 25 years Jasperse has been making and presenting dance worldwide. He is known internationally for his unique approach to movement and choreography. John Jasperse has been presented by the Joyce Theater, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Walker Art Center, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, and many others. In addition to his own company, Jasperse has created works for the Baryshnikov Dance Foundation, the Batsheva Dance Company, and the Lyon Opéra Ballet.

Workshop Description

Following a simple warm-up, we will spend the day working with composition as a simple process of putting things together. We'll think about combination in terms of different manners of organization, disorganization, and reorganization. In seeking to invent/discover appropriate organizational structures for our individual expression(s), we will take inspiration and suggestions from the organizational systems we find in the fields of art history, music, politics, science, and grammar, taking aspects of found organizational structures which are of use or interest to us and disposing of/mutating them as per our needs. Meaning will be thought of as the dialogue between content, form and perception.
